the scatter map · a free kit for people who run manufacturing businesses

What if your production head left tomorrow?

Find what only they know, and write it down before you need it.

Years of know-how often live in one person's head. This isn't about expecting anyone to leave. It's about a business that doesn't depend on one person's memory.

What's inside.

Five short parts to map and score your business, three fixes with templates you can start this week, and a filled-in example. Tap any part to see the page.

  1. Part 1: The Map, a page from the kit

illustrative · a fictional company, filled in

illustrative · fictional company, names and numbers

Here's how one kit might look.

Meghna Engineering Works (fictional) makes machined and fabricated parts. The owner, Rakesh, filled in the kit with Suresh, his production head. Their costliest leak was delivery dates and dispatch: three people chasing updates, hours of Rakesh's own time, and urgent dispatches.

Their numbers are rough on purpose. Rakesh rounded down everywhere and still got about ₹5.6 lakh a year.

Their first fix: one open-order list, with Suresh's handover sheet started in the same week.

good to know — written with them, never as a check on them

about your people

This isn't about anyone doing a bad job. Usually it's the opposite: the people who care most end up holding the most.

The handover sheet is written with them, never as a check on them.

Is it really free?

Yes. You'll also get Samepage, our newsletter: one plain idea every Sunday for people who run manufacturing businesses. Unsubscribe any time.

Do I need any software?

No. A pen and the printed pages are enough. If you prefer, a free Google Sheet does the sums for you. The link is inside the kit.

Who should fill it in?

You, with your production head or sales lead. Sit down together for about 20 minutes, then spend 10 minutes a day for a week on one fix.

Is this about replacing my production head?

No. It's about a business that doesn't depend on one person's memory. Their know-how gets written down with them, never as a check on them, while they're still there to shape it.
